Defending Life
Our days are full. Mostly with external things pushed forward to us (work, media, culture, habits, technology).
Even when we feel we are choosing, we are often within somebody else’s model, so it’s a limited choice (how many things can you name to do on a Thursday morning? For all of us, we select from a small menu, a fraction of what’s really available). There are levels to what I am explaining, and it can be impossible to see far ahead from wherever we are, so perhaps if you don’t trust all of this picture, take just a small step and see how it feels. You don’t need to accept it all, but try a small part with curiosity and see.
I’m saying that it’s your job to consciously create space in your day to be present in the Eternal Now. This practise will become stronger, and what is meant by these words can unfold over an entire lifetime into profound clarity and depth. You don’t need to be a monk to do so, it can be done from any apartment, home, any location on earth no matter your circumstances. When you do this, you create a crack in the wall… when a crack appears, life comes through to fill it, and express through it.
If any part of you is saying that you feel there should be more to life, I say it’s our job to make the crack, then let Life do the rest through you.
If you need somewhere to start, here are four ways to make a crack… meditation, yoga, breathwork, exercise. Experiment endlessly with what you like, what works, and be patient with a goal to incorporate one or more practices into your life over time.
